William Morris

William Morris, philosopher, poet, romancer and theorist of the arts, was also an outstanding and influential designer. Under his direction Morris & Co grew into a flourishing and fashionable design firm, renown for its wallpapers and textiles. Morris himself was responsible for the majority of patterns with fine contributions from others, most notably J.H. Dearle, who later became Artistic Director of the firm. The Morris style initiated the Arts & Crafts movement and was popular in the late Victorian artistic homes of taste. Today their characteristic style has never been more widely appreciated with the Morris & Co Trademark signifying authentic versions and interpretations of those designs.
